If you’re not in Calgary, Alberta, Canada right about now then you’re totally missing out on the Greatest Outdoor show on earth, The Calgary Stampede!
This year, the Calgary Stampede started on July 3, 2015 and will end on July 12, 2015. You might be asking yourself “what is the Calgary Stampede’?” I get that question asked a lot when I meet people who aren’t from Canada. I’ve also met many people from different parts of the world that look forward to the Calgary Stampede and absolutely love it, especially the Calgarians, as the Stampede has been going strong for 103 years!
So what is it? Basically, it’s Calgary’s annual exhibition, rodeo and festival of fun for ten straight days. People from all over the world come to Calgary to check out the chuck wagon races, the rodeo, the Grandstand shows, the delicious and creative foods, concerts, games and Midway rides. People proudly wear country western attire, including cowboy boots and hats.
There’s so much to do on the Stampede grounds every single day that one literally has to go online http://www.calgarystampede.com or download the phone app and see what’s up. There’s always concerts at the Coca Cola stage that are part of your admission fee. Past performers such as Nickelback, Carly Rae Jepsen and the amazing Paul Brandt (who is also from Calgary) have had concerts on this infamous stage.
Last week, on opening night of the Stampede, the Calgary Stampede Coca Cola stage was graced by Juno Award winner KIESZA, who also happens to be from Calgary! This was definitely a big deal as KIESZA is killing it right now in the music game internationally with her breakthrough hit “Hideaway” and her debut release album “Sound of A Woman.”
There’s performances everyday but if you do go make sure you check the website in advance http://www.calgarystampede.com/stampede to plan which artists you want to check out! If you’re a Country music fan, then the Calgary Stampede will become your number one favorite festival as there’s usually a few Country music bands hitting the stage daily.
If you’ve never been to the Calgary Stampede, then please come to Calgary and check it out! Growing up in Calgary, the Stampede was the funnest time of the year as there’s always so much to do. If you love to party, there is also two nightclubs on the Stampede grounds. The infamous “Cowboys Nightclub” and “Nashville North” is where everybody goes! And, it’s all country music, including live performances. Of course, there’s several other parties going on in the city during the Stampede, however, the beauty of being on the Stampede grounds is that everything you really need is right there!
I hope you can make it this year to experience this remarkable festival. I promise you’ll have the time of your life! On a side note, as part of the Stampede tradition, there’s free Stampede breakfasts going on every day all throughout the city at various businesses and establishments. Now that’s what I call Calgary hospitality! Don’t forget to rock your country western attire and cowboy hat! Dressing up just makes the Stampede even funner.
I’d love to hear about your Calgary Stampede experience so please feel free to message me. If you have any questions, I’d be more than happy to help you out! Oh, and make sure you try the mini donuts, a Calgary Stampede popular desert that we’ve been loving since we were kids. Have fun!
